It allows network operators, installers, and building owners to build long-distance Ethernet networks using standard CAT6 cabling, without the complexity and cost of fiber infrastructure.
The GPeR makes it possible to extend an Ethernet link far beyond the usual 100-meter limitation. Each additional GPeR unit adds another hop, enabling distances of up to 100–150 meters to standard network devices, or up to 210 meters between two GPeR units (depending on cable quality). By chaining multiple repeaters, Ethernet links can be extended up to 1.5 km when one side provides PoE power, or up to 3 km when both ends of the link have PoE sources. This makes the GPeR especially useful in high-rise buildings, large residential complexes, and multi-section properties where very long cable runs are unavoidable.
The device supports Passive PoE passthrough, allowing power to be delivered together with data over the same Ethernet cable. If the connected device does not support PoE-in, the passthrough function can be easily disabled by removing the onboard jumpers, ensuring safe operation with non-PoE equipment.
Typical use cases include extending Ethernet links to remote floors or rooftops, connecting access points and switches in large apartment buildings, or building centralized GPEN-based networks where power and connectivity are distributed efficiently across long distances. Compact, passive, and reliable, MikroTik GPeR is a practical solution for scalable Ethernet networks where distance, simplicity, and cost-efficiency matter.
